Why should I worry about advance directives?
Why Should I Care About Advance Directives or DNR? An advance directive refers to treatment preferences and the designation of a substitute decision-maker in the event that a person should become unable to make medical decisions on their own behalf. Advance directives generally fall into three categories: living will, power of attorney and health care proxy.
Setting up your preferences while you are still able, gives peace of mind for you and your loved ones for the future. Choose someone you trust and speak to them truthfully about illness, hospitalizations, surgery, medications, pain control, death, and burial. By doing this ahead of time, you relieve your loved ones of guessing what you would have wanted. “KISS” them with your Love now and take care of details with an Advance Directive and DNR!
